PMI-SP Exam Preparation

A 3-day course to build PMI-SP exam skills in schedule strategy, planning, development, analysis and control with hands-on practice.

24 hours (3 days) Professional Project Management

THE BIG PICTURE

About this course

PMI Scheduling Professional (PMI‑SP) is a speciality certification awarded by the Project Management Institute (PMI) for practitioners who plan, develop, analyse and maintain project schedules. It suits planners, schedulers, project controllers, and project managers who lead schedule activities on predictive or hybrid projects. Across three days, you will connect schedule strategy and requirements with activity definition, logic building, resource planning, critical path analysis and baseline development. You will then apply progress updating, performance measurement, variance and change analysis, and stakeholder reporting. Hands-on work includes building a network, setting calendars and constraints, developing a baseline, updating status, and interpreting schedule performance data. The PMI‑SP exam is computer‑based and scheduled after PMI approves your eligibility application. It contains 170 multiple‑choice questions to be completed in 210 minutes and is closed book. You can sit it at a Pearson VUE test centre or via online proctoring. The credential follows a three‑year renewal cycle under PMI’s Continuing Certification Requirements (CCR) programme. Project Management Institute (PMI) owns the certification scheme. MindClick provides training and exam preparation and is not an accredited or authorised partner.

What you’ll learn

  • Define a schedule strategy aligned to organisational objectives, governance and stakeholder needs
  • Translate scope into an activity list with appropriate coding structures, calendars, and assumptions
  • Build logically correct networks, apply dependencies and constraints, and identify the critical path and float
  • Develop a resource‑aware baseline and explain trade‑offs from resource allocation and levelling
  • Monitor schedule performance with status updates, variance analysis, SPI/SV trends and forecasts
  • Evaluate schedule risks, model what‑if scenarios, and manage change requests and re‑baselining
  • Communicate schedule information clearly to stakeholders through fit‑for‑purpose reports and visuals
  • Prepare for the PMI‑SP exam with domain‑mapped practice, a study plan and exam booking guidance

Day 2Activity logic and resource planningSchedule Planning and Development

What we’ll cover

  • 09:00–10:30 · Day 1 recap and activity definition: WBS, work packages and activity attributes
  • 10:45–12:30 · Sequencing activities: dependency types, leads/lags and network diagramming
  • 13:30–14:45 · Estimating durations and calendars; resource planning concepts and data needs
  • 15:00–16:00 · Critical path, total/free float, constraints and baseline development
