Lean Management Fundamentals
2-day course on Lean principles and tools; map value streams, identify waste, apply 5S and Kaizen, and practise through realistic case work.
THE BIG PICTURE
About this course
There is no single global Lean Fundamentals Certificate; entry-level Lean recognition is offered under varied titles by different certification bodies, and many providers issue a certificate of completion for training. This course aligns to widely used Lean fundamentals that apply across manufacturing, services and healthcare. Across two days you will cover Lean principles, value and waste, Value Stream Mapping, flow and pull, takt time, 5S, visual management, standard work, PDCA/A3 problem solving and Kaizen. Hands-on work includes a waste walk, mapping a current state, designing a future state, calculating basic flow metrics and planning targeted improvements. There is no single standardised exam for a generic Lean fundamentals certificate; if you choose to pursue a third‑party entry-level Lean exam, you book directly with the chosen certification body. The course includes exam-style practice questions, a timed mock test and guidance on selecting and booking an appropriate option. The awarding body owns the certification scheme. MindClick provides training and exam preparation and is not an accredited or authorised partner.
What you’ll learn
- Explain Lean principles and how they guide improvement in different sectors
- Identify customer value and classify the 8 wastes in real processes
- Create a current-state value stream map and collect basic process data
- Calculate lead time, cycle time, takt time and assess flow and pull
- Design practical 5S, visual management and standard work to stabilise processes
- Apply PDCA/A3 and root cause tools to plan and communicate Kaizen actions
- Evaluate benefits, risks and measures to sustain Lean improvements in operations, services and healthcare
- Select a suitable entry-level Lean certification option and prepare using practice questions and a timed mock test

Day 1Foundations, value and current-state analysisPrinciples, value and waste, VSM (current state), flow and pull basics
What we’ll cover
- 09:00–09:30 · Course welcome, objectives, and how the 2 days run
- 09:30–10:30 · Lean principles: value, value stream, flow, pull, perfection
- 10:45–12:15 · Spotting customer value and the 8 wastes across sectors
- 13:15–14:15 · Value Stream Mapping: notation, scope and data collection
- 14:15–15:00 · Team workshop: build a current-state map from a case study
- 15:15–16:00 · Flow, pull, takt time and WIP: definitions, calculations and examples
- 16:00–16:45 · Exam-style practice questions and debrief (Day 1 topics)
- 16:45–17:30 · Day 1 review, action log and Q&A
Put it into practice
In teams, perform a guided ‘waste walk’ on a simulated service process and capture observations. Use the data to create a current-state value stream map and calculate basic timings to identify bottlenecks.
You’ll take away
Current-state value stream map and waste observation log
Day 2Stabilising, improving and future-state design5S, visual management, standard work, problem solving, Kaizen and exam prep
What we’ll cover
- 09:00–09:30 · Recap of Day 1, key takeaways and questions
- 09:30–10:30 · Problem solving with PDCA and A3; root cause (5 Whys, fishbone)
- 10:45–12:15 · 5S, visual management and standard work to stabilise processes
- 13:15–14:15 · Future-state mapping: flow improvements, pull signals and basic Kanban
- 14:15–15:00 · Planning Kaizen: selecting opportunities, roles, measures and risks
- 15:15–16:00 · Exam-style practice questions (mixed topics) and discussion
- 16:00–16:45 · Timed mock exam and group marking review
- 16:45–17:30 · Feedback, personal study plan and guidance on selecting and booking an entry-level Lean exam
Put it into practice
Design a future-state map for the case process and create a short Kaizen action plan with owners, measures and dates. Build a simple 5S audit sheet and visual board mock-up, then run a short flow simulation to test WIP limits.

Bring it all together
Certification exam: Lean Management Fundamentals. Confirm the current exam format with the awarding body when you book. Every attendee also receives a MindClick certificate of completion for 16 contact hours.

What you receive
You earn two separate credentials. The sample shows the MindClick training certificate.
- MindClick certificate of completion: 2 days, 16 contact hours, issued to every attendee who completes the course.
- Lean Management Fundamentals: issued by the awarding body when you meet its requirements and pass the exam.
Before you choose your learning route
Certification route: There is no single external Lean Fundamentals Certificate exam; recognition is typically provider-issued or scheme specific rather than a voucher-booked test.
